The use of FAB-3000 bombs will increase the risk for carrier aircraft

The start of production of FAB-3000 aerial bombs in Russia raises concerns due to its potential risks for carrier aircraft due to the insufficient aerodynamic characteristics of the ammunition. This is stated in an analysis published by Forbes. According to the article, there is a possibility that the FAB-3000 will be equipped with a unified planning and correction module (UMPC), which will allow transforming free-falling ammunition into a glide bomb. However, the author suggested that due to the size of the FAB-3000, its use would be difficult for the Su-34 fighter-bomber, and the Tu-22M bomber could act as a carrier.

It is emphasized that the main problem with using the FAB-3000 is the need for the carrier aircraft to approach the front line, which significantly increases the risk of defeat. The critic in the article emphasizes that given that Russia has many smaller FABs and a sufficient number of Su-34s to deliver them, the use of a heavy 3,3-ton bomb seems an unjustified risk. This opinion is based on the fact that existing smaller glide bombs have significant destructive potential, which makes the use of large FABs unnecessary.
