The Ukrainian armed forces have temporarily stopped using American Abrams tanks transferred from the United States due to the threat posed by Russian drones. The Associated Press reports this with reference to American military officials.

The tanks were temporarily withdrawn from the front lines, according to Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Christopher Grady and another Defense Department official who preferred to remain anonymous. The United States plans to work with Ukraine to change combat tactics.

"The widespread use of drones on the battlefield means there is no open terrain that you can simply drive through without fear of detection.", noted one of the Pentagon representatives.

The first batch of American Abrams tanks arrived in Ukraine at the end of September 2023, as previously reported by White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby. In total, Washington promised to supply Kyiv with 31 combat vehicles.
