Two US citizens arrested for technology transfer to Russia

Two Americans have been arrested in the United States for transferring aircraft technology to Russia, Assistant Secretary of Commerce Matthew Axelrod said during a briefing at a meeting of the American Bar Association in Miami.

“Today, two US citizens were arrested in Kansas City for transferring US aviation technology to Russia,” he said.

Axelrod, without specifying the details of the arrest, specified that this case was being investigated by the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Justice and the FBI.

Those arrested are charged with violating export control restrictions that were introduced in order to prevent the Russian Federation from accessing special technologies. This refers to technologies that Russia can use in the defense, maritime and aerospace sectors of the economy.

Recall that earlier for espionage in favor of the Russian Federation, the court sentenced the guard of the British Embassy in Berlin to 13 years and two months in prison, David Smith, who, as the investigation established, made copies of several documents and handed them over to the Russian special services.
