“Torn to shreds!”: The Russian Lancet destroyed the American HIMARS system in Ukraine with a precise strike

Russian troops continue to successfully confront Ukrainian forces using the latest advances in military technology. Recently, another launcher of the American HIMARS multiple launch rocket system was destroyed using Lancet loitering ammunition.

Avia.pro journalists have obtained video recordings of a night attack by the Russian kamikaze drone “Lancet” on the Ukrainian HIMARS MLRS. According to available information, an American-made installation was discovered at night in the Krasny Liman area in territory temporarily controlled by Kyiv.

A Russian reconnaissance drone, part of one of the units of the Western Group of Forces of the Russian Armed Forces, tracked down HIMARS. Recently, Russian forces have often used a combination of a reconnaissance drone and a Lancet loitering munition. This team operates mainly in the near rear of the Ukrainian army, but cases of hitting targets at a distance of more than 50 km from the line of combat contact have also been recorded.

What is HIMARS?

HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) is a highly mobile multiple launch rocket system developed and manufactured by Lockheed Martin for the US Army. This system is designed to deliver precision strikes against enemy targets over long distances and is capable of moving over rough terrain at speeds of up to 85 km/h.

Characteristics of HIMARS

HIMARS consists of a launcher on a truck chassis, equipped with six transport and launch containers for 227 mm missiles. The system can use missiles with various types of warheads, including cluster, high-explosive fragmentation and fuel-air ammunition. The maximum firing range of M31 GMLRS missiles is 70 km, and ATACMS missiles up to 300 km.

Lancet capabilities

The reconnaissance drone transmitted the coordinates to the Lancet crew, after which the kamikaze drone hit the MLRS. Judging by the footage of the explosion, the installation was loaded with ammunition, because the explosion was quite powerful. It is possible that the escort vehicle parked behind the installation was also damaged. The video footage shows two or three figures running to the side just before being hit by the MLRS. This is clearly not enough to account for the escort group, so we can assume that several Ukrainian nationalists were destroyed along with HIMARS.

This is not the first time that Russian troops have destroyed American HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems. Three HIMARS launchers were previously reported to have been hit within one week. Russian forces continue to demonstrate high effectiveness in the fight against Ukrainian troops, using the latest advances in military technology.
