Swiss bank freezes Russian assets worth $19 billion

The largest Swiss bank Credit Suisse seized Russian assets worth $19 billion.

The arrest of accounts is due to the sanctions imposed on Russia and its citizens. Moreover, which is quite remarkable, the current amount is about a third of all Russian assets stored in Switzerland. This creates serious difficulties both for large companies and for those citizens who have chosen to trust Swiss banks.

At the moment, it is known that out of 19 billion dollars, approximately 4,3 billion dollars were arrested on the accounts of Russian citizens who fell under sanctions directly from Switzerland itself. Account holders are not disclosed, however, given the list of Russian citizens against whom sanctions have been imposed, it is quite easy to determine whose accounts were subject to arrest.

At the moment, Switzerland is not considering transferring the seized funds to Ukraine, as a number of European countries and the United States previously intended to do, however, in the future, such a possibility may well be considered, although this will definitely undermine the credibility of the Swiss banking system.
