Sweden called on NATO to strengthen support for Ukraine against Russia

The head of the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tobias Billström, in a recent interview with the Euractiv portal, expressed the opinion that NATO does not provide sufficient support to Ukraine in its conflict with Russia and called on the alliance to increase its efforts in this direction. Sweden, which officially joined NATO on March 7, becoming the 32nd member of the organization, is thereby actively involved in the dialogue about NATO policy towards Ukraine and Russia.

Billström emphasized that the Ukrainian army has an urgent need for military equipment and other resources, emphasizing that the solution to this problem does not lie in the sphere of industrial potential, but requires specific political decisions and will on the part of the alliance member countries. The minister also expressed the opinion that NATO should take measures to create strategic difficulties for Russia, which, in his opinion, will help change the current situation in the conflict.

Sweden's becoming a NATO member comes against the backdrop of increased alliance activity on Russia's western borders, which Moscow views as a threat to its security. The Kremlin has previously said that Russia does not pose a threat to other countries, but will be attentive to any actions that are potentially dangerous to its interests. Arms supplies to Ukraine from NATO countries are considered by Russia as direct involvement of the alliance in the conflict, which complicates the settlement process and increases tension in the region.
