Maritime Executive: Houthis attacked a tanker with Russian oil

An unidentified tanker was attacked by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea, approximately 14 nautical miles southwest of Al-Mukha, Yemen. According to reports, this is the third incident in the last three days after a break in activity of almost two weeks. It is believed that the target of the attacks was a tanker from the so-called shadow fleet, transporting Russian oil to India. This was reported by Maritime Executive.

The incident was confirmed by UK Maritime Trade Organizations, which monitors maritime trade. The tanker's commander reported two attacks at intervals. The first rocket exploded in the immediate vicinity of the ship, and a strong impact was felt on the crew. The second attack may have included two missiles and resulted in unspecified damage to the ship.

British security company Ambrey clarified that the tanker was previously owned by British owners, but was sold and registered in the Seychelles a few months ago. Although the vessel has not been identified, its description matches the tanker Andromeda Star, which is now registered in Panama after being sold in November 2023. The tanker was involved in a collision off the coast of Denmark in March, after which it was found that it had provided false insurance documents to Danish authorities.
