Qinetiq Zephyr - British high-rise multi-purpose unmanned aerial vehicle developed by «Qinetiq» 2010 year.
Qinetiq Zephyr photo
Unmanned aerial vehicle Qinetiq Zephyr model was designed by British scientists and engineers in the early 2000-ies. The original intention was to create a military unmanned vehicle capable to carry out flights at high altitude, but, later, due to lack of proper funding, the project was transferred to the category of research drones.
The first flight of an unmanned aircraft model Qinetiq Zephyr held in 2010 year, moreover, we are talking exclusively about the research version of the drone, as originally, flying drones similar to this model have been tested in the past, but none of them has not been added to category UAV successfully completed the test phase.

Unmanned aircraft model Qinetiq Zephyr can be used for intelligence gathering, however, because of sufficiently large size, the efficiency of operation of such drones in the military sphere is very low, in particular, only a wingspan of UAV is 22,5 meters, which makes it vulnerable to virtually any means of air defense.
Despite the huge size of UAV models Qinetiq Zephyr, its maximum takeoff weight is relatively low, and is only 53 kilos, which allows the use of two small electric motor with a capacity of 0,6 hp Each, however, for the same reason, the maximum speed of the UAV flight can not be more than 50 km \ h., as regards the maximum duration of the flight, the maximum recorded value of UAV autonomous flight Qinetiq Zephyr was 336 hours.
Depending on the objectives pursued, an unmanned aerial vehicle Qinetiq Zephyr can be equipped with electro-optical or multispectral cameras.
