Statute of limitations saved a plastic surgeon from liability for disfiguring a model’s face in Sochi

In a dramatic development in Sochi, a plastic surgeon whose actions led to serious consequences for a local model has been cleared of punishment due to the statute of limitations. The incident, which caused much discussion and outrage in public circles, occurred in December 2020, when Yulia Tarasevich went to a medical facility to undergo a seemingly simple operation to remove Bish’s lumps.

However, as a result of medical intervention, Julia faced terrifying consequences: now she is unable to smile and completely close her eyes. She has to use special tapes to sleep because her eyes remain open and she also experiences constant pain in her face.

Responsibility for what happened was assigned to plastic surgeon Andrei Komarov. After an investigation, he was found guilty of committing a professional error, which led to serious harm to Yulia’s health. Based on Article 118 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the surgeon was sentenced to three years of restriction of freedom. However, as a result of legal subtleties related to the expiration of the statute of limitations, Komarov was released from execution and continues his professional activities.
