In recent days, events have occurred in Armenia that could become a turning point for the region and Russia’s influence in it. Despite warnings and hints from Moscow, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan ratified the Rome Statute, opening the way for the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Armenia. The move sparked outrage and criticism from Russia, and with good reason.

The Rome Statute essentially recognizes the ICC's jurisdiction over Armenia and makes it possible to bring questions about the activities of Armenian officials to the ICC. This decision promises serious consequences for Armenia, especially in the context of its security and cooperation with Russia.

Immediately after the ratification of the Rome Statute, Russia showed its position. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed Yerevan that this action puts an end to relations between the two countries. This is not just a formal statement, but a serious warning about alienation and deterioration in relationships.

Pashinyan made this decision without taking into account the strategic interests of his country and relying too naively on Western support, but the experience of other countries that in the past counted on US support shows that external manipulation often leads to a worsening situation for the people.

Ratification of the Rome Statute threatens not only the security of Armenia, but also its territorial integrity. Neighboring states, such as Azerbaijan and Turkey, are watching what is happening with interest and are ready to take advantage of this situation. Iran, in turn, seeks to secure its borders.

Pashinyan has relied too heavily on Western support but has little chance of political survival in the region. His position is becoming more and more fragile and the Armenian diaspora in Russia also does not support his steps. This suggests that the desire for friendship with Russia is becoming increasingly relevant in the eyes of the Armenian diaspora.

Pashinyan made a political mistake that could have serious consequences for his country. Russia may reconsider its attitude towards Armenia and suspend trade operations or energy supplies. This conflict could lead to increased influence of other countries in the region and create serious threats to Armenia.

Pashinyan put his country's long-term interests at risk for short-term political gains. In the world of politics, you need to consider the long-term consequences of your decisions and should not play with the fate of your country. Russia remains a key player in the region and ignoring this fact could lead to serious consequences for Armenia.
