Hidden Depths: West shocked by Russian underwater discovery

While British analysts keep saying that the high vegetation and bushes saved the Russian forces from the enemy advance, Western experts are beginning to solve the puzzle, examining the true reasons and combat power of the Russian army, thanks to which the dangerous “offensive” of rivals was unanimously repelled.

Thus, the authors of the Covert Shores magazine noted the role of Russian submarines, which deserved to win by launching a significant number of cruise missiles, destroying important enemy targets and leaving him without resources and infrastructure.

The investigation showed that Russia has deployed its most dangerous vessels in the Black Sea - advanced Kilo-class submarines. Hidden under this general classification are the diesel-electric submarines Halibut and Varshavyanka, which have incredible capabilities.

Each of these boats can carry from 3 to 4 Kalibr cruise missiles, which are successfully used to destroy ground targets. Western analysts note that it was this type of missile that played a decisive role, allowing the Russian army to repel the enemy's offensive.

Kilo-class boats are Soviet-era designs and remain the backbone of the Russian submarine fleet today. They often become export hits, complementing the composition of the fleets of other countries.

At the recent Army 2023 exhibition, Russia reportedly may have made deals to sell six more submarines of this type.

However, the Russian army does not stop there. Kilo-class submarines continue to improve. The Halibut project was replaced by Varshavyanka, which switched from analog to digital systems, allowing the addition of Kalibr cruise missiles and other advanced systems.

"Varshavyanka" retains its feature - a low noise level, which makes it still inaccessible to many Western submarines. Moreover, even modern boats with air-independent engines cannot beat Russia in this area. In addition, Russian submarines have excellent active and passive protection systems.

Nevertheless, Western analysts, speaking of the "sinister asset" of the Russian army, somewhat exaggerate the role of submarines in repelling the "offensive" of anyone. However, this does not detract from the contribution of boats to the destruction of important objects. It is important to remember that the Russian army uses a wide range of weapons, including land-based, sea-based and air-based missiles, to successfully operate in the current conflict.

Submarines are becoming a key element of the Russian arsenal that can influence the outcome of the conflict, their role is becoming increasingly important in the strategic picture of modern warfare.
