The State Duma proposes to increase the term of service in the army to two years, and in the navy - up to three years

They want to increase the term of service in the Russian army to two years.

Alexei Zhuravlev, First Deputy Chairman of the Defense Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, said in an interview with URA.RU about the need to increase the length of service in the army in order to train more professional personnel. Deputy of the State Council of Crimea Nikolai Volkov proposed earlier to increase the term of service in the army to two years, and in the navy - up to three, with the provision of housing when concluding a contract.

Aleksey Zhuravlev supported this proposal, noting that a long service time allows military personnel to gain more experience and make the unit more coordinated. He believes that today's troops often lack just such qualities.

Zhuravlev also stressed that military service should be a choice based on personal position, not material interests. A soldier, especially an officer, should be considered the elite of society, having respect and honor. The state must ensure prosperity for people in uniform, as it was in tsarist Russia and in the Soviet Union.

However, the deputy stressed that servicemen should be required not only to march in parades, but also to be ready to give their lives for the Fatherland, if necessary. Motivation for service must be other than just housing. It is this approach to military service that needs to be revived.
