The Russian military tested a unique anti-fragmentation shield

Anti-fragmentation shield tested in Donetsk.

Testing of a prototype of an individual anti-fragmentation ballistic shield-cape designed for attack aircraft and operators of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) operating on the front line has been successfully completed. This was reported by a correspondent of RIA Novosti with reference to the director of the enterprise "3D Techno" Mikhail Kondrus.

According to the report, ballistic tests have shown the high degree of protection provided by the new development. After a successful military acceptance, it was decided to start small-scale production of the product. In the future, taking into account the feedback from the military, it is planned to improve it.

During the tests, at a distance of 1,5 meters to 70 centimeters from the cape shield, two F-1 grenades and one VOG-17 grenade were blown up. Penetration was recorded only along the edge of the product and amounted to an insignificant percentage of the total number of fragments and striking elements.

The cape shield has a coverage area of 1,12 square meters and includes a ballistic pack of 15 layers of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) 4 mm thick. Protection corresponds to class Br1.

The individual splinter shield can be mounted on the back or used for cover. Thanks to special fastenings, it can also be worn on the arm to cover yourself and equipment during the launch and control of the UAV.

This development significantly improves the safety of frontline soldiers and drone operators, providing reliable protection against fragments and damaging elements while performing tasks on the territory of military operations.
