Relatives of the Armenian military detained in Azerbaijan blocked the Gyumri-Bavra highway

Residents of Armenia blocked the road, demanding the release of their captive relatives.

Relatives of the Armenian military, who were captured in December 2020 in Karabakh and are currently being held in Azerbaijan, blocked the highway leading to the Armenian-Georgian border on Tuesday. They demand the release of their loved ones. The event took place in the Shirak region of Armenia.

"Relatives of those captured at the combat positions of the village of Khtsaberd, Hadrud region, this morning blocked the Gyumri-Bavra interstate highway (a village near the border with Georgia - ed.)", - the newspaper reports.

One of the protesters said that the issue of releasing the detained military was not being resolved. The report notes that 26 residents of the Shirak region are in captivity in Azerbaijan.

At the end of September 2020, hostilities resumed in Nagorno-Karabakh, which led to civilian casualties. The parties made several attempts to conclude a truce, but the tripartite agreement reached on the night of November 10 was successful. With the mediation of Moscow, Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed to a complete ceasefire, to exchange prisoners and the bodies of the dead. However, relatives of the detained soldiers claim that the issue of releasing their loved ones has not yet been resolved. The territories occupied by the Azerbaijani army remained under the control of Baku.
