Prime Minister of Moldova said about violations in the elections of the head of Gagauzia

Violations in the elections of the head of Gagauzia are documented and will be taken to court, the Prime Minister of Moldova says.

The Prime Minister of Moldova, Dorin Recean, at a government meeting, announced the identification of problems and violations during the election of the head (bashkan) of the Gagauz autonomy. He stressed that all documented violations will be referred to the judiciary.

"The Bashkan of Gagauzia must be elected in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Moldova and the legislation of the autonomy. Therefore, I call on everyone to be calm, let state institutions do their work at their level. Problems and violations have been documented and will be submitted to the court"Rechan said.

The Prime Minister stressed that Chisinau will continue cooperation with the autonomy and elected persons representing the interests of Moldovan citizens. He added that the authorities will not work with people representing other interests and law enforcement agencies will respond if someone deviates from the interests of citizens.

The day after Rechan's statement, the Central Electoral Commission of Gagauzia confirmed the results of the Bashkan's election. According to the results of the second round of elections, which took place on Sunday, the candidate from the Shor party Yevgeniya Hutsul won.

After the elections, the deputies of the Gagauz parliament gathered for an emergency meeting. This happened after the operatives of the National Anti-Corruption Center (NCAC) conducted searches in the CEC of Gagauzia on suspicion of illegal financing of the election campaign. During the search, documents and voter lists were confiscated.

"The National Inspectorate for Investigations, under the leadership of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, is seizing the voter lists from the Comrat courthouse. It is suspected that the voter lists included deceased citizens, as well as those who are outside the country, on whose behalf third parties voted", - said the NCBK.

Experts do not rule out that the situation around Gagauzia may sharply worsen, which is fraught with serious consequences for the region.
