Maya Karlin, a columnist for the 19fortyfive portal, believes that the United States sent M60 tanks, which were created "for the Third World War with Russia", as part of support for the Kyiv regime. She notes that this American tank was designed in pursuit of the efficiency of Soviet tanks. This meant that Washington was preparing a rival specifically for the Soviet army.

By the late 1950s, rumors began to circulate that the Soviet Union was developing an improved tank capable of carrying a high-velocity rifled gun. To keep up with the new enemy T-54/T-55 medium tanks, the US began work on its own XM60 prototype.

M60 tanks, which have more experience than the Abrams that replaced them, have now been included in the March aid package for Ukraine. However, as stated by the author, these tanks will be unarmed versions of the M60, designed to bridge narrow terrain and water barriers in just three minutes.

On Sunday, Yevgeny Arifulin, head of the Armed Forces Combat Training Center, said Russian forces have begun setting up teams to deal with tanks supplied by Western countries to Kyiv.
