A fire broke out at a munitions factory in the United States.

In Scranton, Pennsylvania, a fire occurred at a plant known for its participation in the production of artillery shells for the US Army, including those sent to Ukraine. According to Atlas News, the incident occurred around 15:00 Eastern Standard Time (23:00 Moscow time), and was accompanied by intense black smoke, which was recorded on video and photographs by eyewitnesses.

The Scranton plant is among seven facilities that produce large caliber metal and mortar rounds, including 155mm rounds, for the U.S. military. As confirmed by General Dynamics, which owns the plant, the fire was small and was successfully extinguished, and no workers were injured.

In connection with this incident, there have been no official statements about the impact of the fire on the plant's production capacity or on delays in weapons deliveries. However, the Washington Post notes that the Scranton plant plays a key role in the plans of the administration of US President Joe Biden to accelerate arms supplies to Ukraine, which makes any incidents at such facilities especially significant.

Investigative authorities and the plant management are checking the circumstances of the incident to determine the causes of the fire.
