In Afghanistan, they reported the death of a high-ranking member of the Taliban movement (recognized as terrorist and banned in Russia - note by Avia.pro), Muhammad Omar Jan Akhundzada, who was killed by unknown persons during a visit to Pakistan. According to sources, Akhundzada had arrived in a village in Quetta area to meet his family during Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

Akhundzada's death was confirmed by Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, who expressed condolences in a message posted on social media site X on Friday. The details of his death, as well as the identity of the killers, were not disclosed by Taliban representatives.

The Taliban condemned the killing of Omar Jan Akhundzada, calling it a "great crime". To date, no group or individual has claimed responsibility for this act.

According to the Taliban-controlled Radio Television Corporation of Afghanistan (RTA), Akhundzada was a member of the Taliban's oversight office and a teacher at a school in Kandahar. Other sources from Kandahar claim that he was an adviser to the group's leader Hibatullah Akhundzada and headed the Taliban jihadist school in Kandahar.
