Romanian MLRS APR-40 first seen in service with Ukraine

Romanian MLRS APR-40 were spotted for the first time in Ukraine.

Photos of Romanian multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) APR-40 appeared on social networks on the territory of Ukraine. MLRS APR-40 is an analogue of the Soviet MLRS BM-21 "Grad" and is produced in Romania under the "Warsaw Pact".

The published footage shows several Romanian-made MLRS located on the field. Note that the Romanian authorities have previously declared their readiness to supply Soviet weapons from the times of the "Warsaw Pact" to Ukrainian territory. In this regard, the Romanian government has changed national legislation to facilitate the supply of its weapons to countries that are allies of the alliance, including Ukraine. However, the current deliveries have not been officially announced.

The Romanian company Aerostar SA has developed an improved version of the MLRS based on the combat module of the Soviet BM-21 Grad. The new system received a 665x6 DAC-6T truck chassis. The combat module is fully consistent with the Soviet counterpart and is capable of firing 40 122 mm caliber rockets.

The appearance of Romanian MLRS on the territory of Ukraine emphasizes the increased pumping of Ukrainian troops with Western weapons. At the same time, this indicates that Kyiv is experiencing a certain shortage of weapons.
