One of the versions of the explosion on the gas pipeline connecting Lithuania and Latvia is called sabotage.

A powerful explosion thundered on the gas pipeline in the evening. The explosion was so strong that the column of flame rose to a height of up to 50 meters. It was not possible to promptly eliminate the fire, however, suggestions have already been made that an arranged sabotage may be the cause of the explosion, since access to the gas pipeline in this area is not difficult.

The explosion on the gas pipeline was so strong that the fire from it could be seen from a distance of several tens of kilometers.

“On Friday at about 17.00 there was an explosion on the gas pipeline in the Pasvalis area. According to preliminary data, no one was hurt. The explosion occurred far from residential buildings. The fire was extinguished by fire brigades, who immediately arrived on the scene., - said the Lithuanian GTS operator AmberGrid.

The gas pipeline connecting Lithuania and Latvia is vulnerable, as it provides a link between the two countries and there are simply no other gas pipeline systems here. At the same time, the version of the organized sabotage has not yet received any confirmation. This does not exclude the possibility that the explosion could have occurred for other reasons.
