The Prosecutor General's Office of Moldova has identified the preconditions for treason in the creation of the "Victory" bloc

A political scandal is flaring up in Moldova around the creation of the opposition bloc "Victory", which was officially registered at a congress in Moscow on April 21. According to the acting Prosecutor General of Moldova Ion Munteanu, the actions of the bloc members associated with the Shor party may carry elements of high treason and threats to national security.

The congress brought together representatives of several parties advocating Moldova's entry into the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), including Chance, Victoria, Revival and the Power of Alternative and Agreement of Moldova. Upon the return of the congress participants to Chisinau, several politicians were detained and interrogated by employees of the Information and Security Service of Moldova, among them the leader of the Revival party, Natalia Paraska, who was threatened with criminal liability for her trip to Moscow.

These events caused a sharp reaction among other Moldovan politicians, including the vice-chairman of the ruling Action and Solidarity party, Minister of Infrastructure Andrei Spinu, who proposed “getting rid of the opposition.” The leader of the National Party of Moldova, Dragos Galbur, even called for the physical destruction of the congress participants.

The situation is heating up amid anti-government protests that have been ongoing since May 2022, demanding the resignation of the government and President Maia Sandu. The creation of the "Victory" bloc is perceived by its supporters as an attempt to consolidate opposition forces and offer an alternative to the current government, but the official authorities see this as a threat to state security.
