Vinod Kumar NEB. Biography. Fighting. Awards. Ranks. A photo.
Vinod was a young Indian pilot when in 1965, the war broke out between India and Pakistan. During the fighting, being a part of 27-Squadron, he flew on the "Hunter".
Once on this fighter, he flew with a friend on patrol. Soon an order came from the ground to urgently return, because Pakistani planes attacked their airfield. Near their base, the Indians encountered a pair of Sabers who were returning from the raid. Neb took aim and fired at the nearest enemy plane. The Pakistani caught fire and collapsed - this was Vinod's first victory.
To win the next victory, Nebu had to wait another 6 years. In 1971, he served on the Eastern sector as part of 27-Squadron. In one of the raids on the Dhaka unit intercepted him, "Sabres". After a brief fight NEB said they downed fighter. But the Pakistani side has not confirmed this victory.
On that day, the Indians declared that knocked 4 "Sabre", and Pakistanis blamed 3. And there is a high probability that Vinod victory took place in an air battle.
