Sleep in the clouds: Tips for falling asleep on a plane

Air travel is certainly one of the most comfortable and certainly the fastest way to get from point A to point B, even if they are separated by the ocean and thousands of kilometers away. However, sometimes the flight still takes several hours, which many of us would prefer to spend in a dream.

Falling asleep on an airplane is not as easy as it seems - stress, uncomfortable body position, unfamiliar and noisy people around affect. We will give some tips on how to still take a nap, despite the irritating factors.

 

  • That would be a bed

Unfortunately, beds with real orthopedic mattresses and ultra-comfortable chairs are found only in private jets and luxury classes of several airlines. In other cases, you will have to be content with an ordinary chair.
The optimal position is the most horizontal. This means you need to recline your seat (if it is allowed at the moment of the flight and does not interfere with the person behind), and stretch your legs (so it is better to choose seats with more legroom). It's even better if you've chosen a window seat and you have a surface to lean against.

 

  • No dope

Before a flight during which you want to sleep, you must give up sleeping pills, alcohol and coffee.
Sleeping pills in flight conditions can cause thrombosis with the most unfortunate consequences, so be sure to consult your doctor.
If everything is clear with coffee - it stimulates nervous activity, then alcohol, according to an erroneous opinion, allegedly promotes sleep. Unfortunately, if you take something intoxicating, you will not only not be allowed on the plane, but you will also not fall asleep, since alcohol also excites the brain. By the way, fast carbohydrates and sweets also interfere with sleep.

 

  • Pre-flight preparation

First, try not to get too much sleep before your flight. It is better to sleep a little, but take a nap in the cabin. Secondly, try to get tired physically. This recommendation is valid for those who fly to rest, not work. If you have a difficult day after the flight, you should not heed this advice.
Finally, take a hard travel pillow with you, you can use an inflatable one. It will not only help you fall asleep, but also relieve stress from the neck. A special sleep mask will also help, especially if you have already used it and are used to this feeling. Headphones and ear plugs are an individual matter, but with them you will not hear the flight attendants, and you may be asked to remove them.
