Dutch intelligence accused the Russian Federation of planning strikes on infrastructure

Accusations against Russia that it allegedly plans attacks against energy infrastructure in the Dutch part of the North Sea were put forward by the head of the Dutch military intelligence MIVD, General Jan Swielens, at a press conference on February 20, Reuters reported.

“In recent months, we have seen Russian actors trying to figure out how the energy system works in the North Sea. We are seeing this for the first time,” Swillens said.

As evidence, the head of Dutch military intelligence cited the recent sighting of a Russian vessel near a Dutch-owned wind farm in the North Sea. The general said the ship was attempting to map the energy infrastructure for planning future strikes.

“Russia is mapping the operation of our wind farms in the North Sea. They are very interested in how they can sabotage the energy infrastructure,” the head of Dutch military intelligence sounded the alarm.
