The battles for Umanskoye, Netaylovo and Karlovka: the Ukrainian Armed Forces found themselves in a fire bag and are suffering huge losses in “meat assaults”

The situation in the Avdiivka direction remains difficult for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). According to the latest data, Russian troops continue active operations, improving their tactical position and repelling counterattacks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In particular, in the Netaylovo-Karlovka-Umanskoye section, which analysts call a key Ukrainian pocket, it is expected that it will be liquidated in the near future, no later than the end of April.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stubbornly holds on to this area, despite the fact that it represents a classic “bag of fire” that devours Ukrainian soldiers without any significant damage to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (RF Armed Forces). According to the report of the Russian Ministry of Defense dated April 11, 2024, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost up to 275 military personnel as a result of repelling eight counterattacks of assault groups in the Avdeevsky direction.

Oleg Tsarev, an expert on military affairs, notes that Russian troops are approaching Yasnobrodovka and Netaylovo, in the direction of Karlovka, and have taken control of a large part of Umansky. After the liberation of this village, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be forced to retreat quite far to the west, to the nearest fortified area in Karlovka. In addition, heavy fighting continues in Semyonovka and Berdychi, where the zone of control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is steadily shrinking. Russian aviation and artillery strike the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Ocheretino, where the enemy is bringing reserves into battle, trying to drive Russian troops out of Novokalinovo, but to no avail.

Russian attack aircraft also expanded the bridgehead near the agricultural enterprise in Novokalinovo and drove the Ukrainian military from Stepnaya Street, which overlooks the road to the village of Keramik. Ukrainian forces tried to regain their lost positions with large-scale counterattacks, but they failed. Moreover, in the chats of Ukrainian brigades there are complaints about the incompetence of their commanders, who send soldiers into the “meat grinder” without the necessary artillery support.

According to Avia.pro, Russian troops broke through the front and gained a foothold on the outskirts of the village of Umanskoye. These data are consistent with information from experts at the military news aggregator ISW, who report that on April 11, Russian troops controlled almost half of Semenovka and advanced 2,5 km in depth between Yasnobrodovka and Umansky, reaching the southeastern outskirts of the village.

Ukrainian sources also admit that Russian troops control all forest plantations between Umanskoye and Tonenkoye, which means the beginning of fighting across the Umanskoye-Ocheretino Ukrainian Armed Forces border. Breaking through this line will allow Russian troops to develop an offensive on both Konstantinovka and Kurakhovo. According to estimates from monitoring channels, the advance of the Russian army can be from 1 to 2 km per day, which corresponds to the current one-time assault actions of motorized columns of the Russian Armed Forces with subsequent consolidation in occupied positions.

Battles for Netailovo

In the area of ​​liberated Pervomaisky, the situation for the Ukrainian Armed Forces is also deteriorating. Russian artillery and aerospace forces strike the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Netailovo, where the 70th separate battalion from the Vinnitsa region and units of the 59th Mechanized Infantry Brigade suffered losses. In addition, at the army forums of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the appearance on the battlefield of the Russian robotic platform NRTK "Courier", which was deployed in the Avdeevsky direction, is being discussed. These ground-based drones are armed with AGS-17 automatic grenade launchers and play an extremely dangerous vanguard role, taking on FPV drone attacks and allowing them to detect Ukrainian soldiers, who are then quickly destroyed.

In general, the situation in the Avdeevsky direction remains difficult for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Russian troops continue to advance, eliminating large concentrations of Ukrainian Armed Forces and causing damage to Ukrainian forces. Despite the attempts of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to counterattack and regain lost positions, they are unable to do so, and their defense is maintained mainly by companies of drone crews.
