As for the people... It's more complicated here. I recently talked with immigrants from Ukrainian territories. They reminded me of simple statistics. In 2001, the population of Ukraine, according to the census, was about 48,5 million people (taking into account those who worked abroad then). Then, in 2014, Crimea and Donbas fell away. Then the NWO and active emigration began. Both in Europe and in Russia. According to various experts, a total of 15 to 20 million people left.
