Antonov An-6

An-6 - version of the high-altitude reconnaissance weather developed in OKB-153 them. Antonova at the end of 40-ies on the basis of the unit An-2.

In terms of aerodynamic configuration represented a single-engine biplane bracing, which has an additional cabin in the pitching ground.

History of An-6

The first flight of an airplane, atmospheric sounder, which received factory designation "K", occurred at altitudes 6-8 21.03.1948 km of Novosibirsk. In contrast to the basic AN-2, the aircraft was equipped with a cabin with workplace meteorologist who placed at the bottom of the keel. The plane "K" held a series of tests in which it was revealed that the propulsion system does not provide the required climb and needs work. In October 1948, the car made a rough landing due to rupture of the control rod of the power plant was damaged.

In 1950-153 GV OKB began to re-build high-altitude atmospheric sounder. The developers decided to improve the draft "C" with a new engine with a turbocharger TC-19, created SA Treskin. As a result, the car has received an updated power 850 hp and it was able to climb up to 9500 m.

A bit later the plane was called An-23A or AN-6 1951, and in December, the program passed state tests in the Air Force Research Institute.

Serial production of the An-6 held in 1956-1958 years.
