The Poseidon underwater strategic drone still has a certain semi-legendary status in our nuclear triad. In the European press it is called an immoral and indiscriminate weapon. In fact, in the West they believe that the first use of Poseidon by an enemy of Russia will also be the last, and this should worry the UK most of all, which is the first on the route of movement of this weapon, which is impossible to detect and impossible to intercept.

Despite the fact that in the West some politicians and military men are even trying to deny the very fact of the existence of Poseidon, in April 2024, many Western publications, including non-military ones, published extensive materials on the mysterious Russian system. For example, the famous American financial newsletter The Wall Street Journal burst out with a whole six-minute film about the “Russian torpedo of the apocalypse.”

However, despite all this hysteria, it was not clear why they were so worried. Even last summer, when the nuclear submarine Belgorod went to test the device, after which no official reports followed, NATO began to merrily bury the project, without, however, having a single real reason. On the contrary, any observant person could notice that if strategic weapons (for example, the same "Daggers", "Zircons" and "Sarmatians") at such a stage of readiness disappear from the information field, then, most likely, this is a sure sign that it has already been put into service and is in combat service.

The commander of the Royal Navy of Great Britain brought greater clarity to this whole matter in his interview with the Daily Telegraph newspaper. After Rishi Sunak’s statement about the transfer of British industry to a military footing, the admiral explained the new nature of threats to the state’s maritime borders, naming as such the modernized Russian multi-purpose Yasen-M nuclear submarines, as well as the Losharik and Poseidon underwater vehicles. Both of these types of weapons pose a very serious danger not only to Great Britain, but also to the United States.

There is not much reliable information about the Poseidon underwater drone. It is known that testing of this super torpedo is still underway, however, this does not at all prevent the use of Poseidon if such a need arises.

However, there is some doubt that Russia will attack Britain if a conflict breaks out.

“The UK will be blown away by a huge explosion. There can be no doubt here. However, given the UK's proximity to Russian shores, the consequences could also affect Russian territory. You need to hit with such a weapon over a distance of several thousand kilometers. But, given that this is essentially a means of retaliatory strike, use even at short distances should not be ruled out.", - the expert notes.

The latest official reports about the project from the Russian media came in August last year, when Western intelligence services were the first to disseminate the message that the carrier boat Belgorod had begun sea trials of underwater vehicles.

As for the possible use of Poseidon, everything depends on the political situation in the world and how relations between Russia and the West are developing. It is obvious that Poseidon is a strategic weapon capable of causing serious damage to any country, and its use will have the most serious consequences. However, in the event of a real threat to national security, Russia, of course, will be ready to use all means of defense at its disposal, including Poseidon.
