Zala Aero ZALA 421-12

In 2007, Zala Aero released the revolutionary ZALA 421-12 UAV. They approached the development outside the box - first they carried out work on equipping the payload, and then on the glider. As a result, we received not so much a plane with a payload as a high-quality load of both infrared and daytime range.

Payload is presented:

  • Color cameras, stabilized in two axes to inspect all points of the lower hemisphere, having a smooth adjustment of the viewing angle.

  • Gyro-stabilized thermal imaging platform.

In this model, the first time for the management of the payload corresponds to airborne equipment. UAV flight duration increased to two hours. The device is able to carry a payload of up to a total weight of 1 kg. The standard version includes a complete set of premises within this weight in two axes gyro-stabilized camera with a digital image stabilizer and an overview of all the points of the lower hemisphere. Also on a stable platform can be installed thermal imager or camera, expandable to 10 megapixels.

Tests have shown that the distance of the effective use of UAVs at a distance of up to 50 km.

Complexes ZALA 421-12 on the results of the contest began to buy on the needs of the Border Service of the Russian Federation.

Under the contract, the drones are provided with interchangeable payload options: a camera, a color video camera and thermal imager, allows viewing all points in the lower hemisphere for special operations at any time, and the implementation of covert surveillance. The launch of the UAV does not require special airport equipment and takes place by means of pneumatic or elastic catapult.

Complex ZALA 421-12 2008 in the state testing program was completed and had to prove itself on good service in the uniformed services.

Purpose Complex ZALA 421-12 is to monitor various types of underlying surface in a wide range of weather conditions, search and find objects.

It provides transmit and receive data in the form of thermal imaging pictures and television area, the definition of objects of observation and coordinate the collection, processing and storage of additional information.

All the complexes are supplied with the already integrated ZANET system, which broadcasts telemetric and visual information from any UAV to the ground terminals, as well as the transfer of control of the drone from one NSU to another. All tasks, whether compatible with ZANET, or not, are displayed on a single card, which allows for centralized control of the UAV. The use of the ZANET system is of particular relevance when several unmanned vehicles of different structures operate in the same region. Power structures and the border guard service have already shown interest in approbation and deployment of the UAV with the ZANET system installed on its bases.

In 2009, the developers upgraded the ZALA 421-12 UAV. Changes were made to the airframe design, payload and layout of indoor units. In the new version, the camera is installed normally, and in the payload compartment, space is reserved for mounting the thermal imager or video camera. Therefore, in order to get high-quality images and videos, it is no longer necessary to fly out several times, which has a positive effect on cost savings while using the ZALA 421-12 UAV complex.
