Yakovlev UT-2

The aircraft UT-2 is a training machine of the Soviet manufacture. It actively exploited before the war and during it. This unit is the brainchild of Yakovlev Design Bureau. Commercially produced with this machine 1938 year for ten years, for all this time has been created 7323 aircraft.

The history of the airplane TU-2

The main reason for the birth of this type of aircraft was the appearance of fighter I-16, which was adopted by the Soviet Air Force. For the new fighter had to train pilots who have the basics of aircraft control. Education on the fighter was impossible, because he does not forgive mistakes in the management and cost a lot of money, and training machine was two times cheaper. One disadvantage of training aircraft was that he did not have much power, as a fighter, and he could not perform those figures that the military apparatus.

Due to his experience Yakovlev was able to bring in a new machine learning all the necessary requirements. The designer had to spend a lot of time in the calculations and design, as it was necessary to achieve high speed with a weak engine. The increase in speed was obtained by improving the aerodynamics of the body. Design works were completed in 1934 year, and a year later was ready the first model UT-2.

The first take-off occurred in the summer of 35 years running test Y. Piontkovsky. The first flight was wonderful, and after that the pilot confirmed the excellent flight characteristics of the aircraft. The next day, this machine was presented to senior management of the country.

In further tests the aircraft UT-2 able to develop speed 210 km / h, and it was on 60 km / h more than the previous model. It is confirmed that all the efforts were not in vain designer. By the end of the year 36 car passed state tests, which resulted in the confirmed excellent flight characteristics of the machine. There was only one comment from a state commission that is necessary in the design of the machine to use more wood.

Yakovlev took into account all the suggestions and corrected the flaws, after which the aircraft type UT-2 began to produce in large quantities at once on five aircraft factory.

The machine was made according to the scheme of a free-carrying monoplane, which had a mixed construction. The body of the machine and the wings were made entirely of wood, and only plumage and control systems were made of duralumin. Also duralumin were the hoods and fairings of the device. The profile of the wings of the apparatus was modified. On the wing consoles, plywood casing was installed, but the outer part of it was equipped with a calico. The ailerons of the wing had a slit compensation, they were made of metal, and the top was covered with a cloth. The plumage of the machine was riveted and in some parts it was reinforced with weld seams.

With regard to the system chassis, it was a pyramidal shape, and does not retract into the housing unit. Each Pyramid bore the rack plate damping system. The wheels of the aircraft UT-2 were standard at the time and did not have the dimensions of the brake system to stop the machine. In cold weather, the aircraft was set on the ski chassis type.

The power plant of the aircraft UT-2 was represented by motor M-11G, and on some models installed engine M-11M. These power plants were given power 100 horsepower. This motor is driven by a twin screw a wooden structure, which had a fixed pitch rotations. Screw diameter reached 2,1 meters. The fuel system was represented by three fuel tanks with a total capacity in liters 200. Fuel and oil to the engine received fuel via the pump.

In addition to the standard training models have been developed and other options have been created even combat vehicles that participated in World War II. At the same time the military vehicles were equipped with machine guns and could carry a bomb load.
