Development of a single-engine aircraft Piper PA-32R was conducted on the basis of another, no less successful model - Piper PA-32 Cherokee Six. His first flight of the aircraft made in the year 1975, and, almost immediately became a model very popular, and this includes not only private owners, and air carriers operating on local airlines.

At its core, the plane Piper PA-32R differed little from the basic model on which way it was designed.

The base model Piper PA-32R-300 had a retractable chassis (one of the main differences of this model), and a powerful power plant, including a Lycoming IO-540 piston engine (300 hp). Thanks to a new chassis system, the aircraft manufacturer was able to significantly reduce drag of the aircraft, thereby reducing fuel consumption and increasing the aircraft performance.

Easy management of this aircraft, and high maneuverability allow the most adapted aircraft for any purpose, including, the current model is operated for passenger traffic, freight and as air taxis.

On board the aircraft could accommodate up to 5 passengers, which is perfect for a variety of purposes in civil aviation. If necessary, the aircraft cabin could be made in the VIP-arrangement, which allows to operate the aircraft and as a means of business aviation.

In 1978 year, on the basis of the main production version was created by modification of the Piper PA-32RT-300, the main distinguishing feature of which is a modified T-shaped tail, which in turn makes it easier to stabilize the aircraft during the flight, increasing the quality such as the handling and maneuverability. However, due the popularity current version did not use because of lower-speed characteristics of the aircraft.

Model modification Piper PA-32RT-300T, presented in 1978 year, has a new turbocharged piston engine, allows the aircraft to accelerate to speed in 324 km \ h (cruising speed), at the same time, despite not actually power the aircraft has changed, the aircraft used much more popular than the previous version.

In 1980 year, aeronautical engineer Piper Aircraft Corporation, have decided to abandon the use of the T-shaped tail part, in connection with what was presented version of the Piper PA-32R-301. However, despite the overall similarity with the base model of the series, the designers replaced the obsolete components and assemblies with new aircraft, which allowed more efficient to operate the aircraft. The model was very popular, and the actual termination of its release was initiated only 2008 year.

Turbocharged version of Piper PA-32RT-300 aircraft manufacturers Piper Aircraft presented in 1980 year - the exception was a new, more advanced and efficient in terms of aircraft engine operation.

Modifications EMB-721C Sertanejo and EMB-721D Sertanejo, representing inherently produced in Brazil model Piper PA-32R-300 and Piper PA-32R-301 respectively, suffered a number of minor differences, mainly related to appearance, and do not affect the flight performance of the aircraft.
