Multi-purpose combat aircraft JAS-39 Grippen company SAAB / British Aerospace is a single-engine monoplane with a simple delta wing and a fully floating adjustable slats - aerodynamic configuration "duck" (horizontal rudders handed down before draining).
The aircraft is characterized by the natural (deliberate) no wind resistance, to achieve high maneuverability. Through-wire control system (Fly-by-Wire) from three-channel redundant system ensures the aerodynamic resistance of the aircraft in flight. Also in emergency situations provided analog system backup management.
Since the aircraft was developed in Sweden, where a limited number of plains, that for this reason, the plane has an excellent takeoff and landing performance, allowing take off and land on short runways. Brake pads with slats provide sufficient aerodynamic braking during landing.
About 30% of the airframe is made of composite materials. The horizontal surface of the wing control, the slats are made of carbon fiber. The fuselage is made of aluminum alloy, an alloy of titanovovogo wings.
The JAS-39 as the engine used powerplant RM12. This engine is a turbofan engine with afterburner (turbofan) production Volvo Aero Corporation. This is a modified version of the engine by the American company General Electric F-404-400, which is used in the American F / A-18. RM12 from F404 has high traction. 54kN in RM12 against 48,9kN in F404 without afterburner and 80,5kN against 78,7kN respectively with afterburner. Other differences are the most resistant to swallowing foreign objects, and higher reliability, so that the engine meets the safety criteria for use as a single engine aircraft. Running the engine, including automatic traction control, depending on the flight mode is controlled by a special computer for maximum performance of the engine, which makes it possible to adapt to the specific conditions with maximum efficiency. The JAS-39C / D uses a modified engine Volvo Aero RM12UP.
The aircraft is equipped with a pulse Doppler radar PS-05 / A, operating in the frequency range 8-10 GHz. Radiated power 1 kW radar to detect targets up to 120 km. Radar can automatically tracking multiple targets in the upper and lower hemisphere, on land, on water and in the air, and in all weather conditions. It can also simultaneously inducing to 4 missiles "air-air" in the 4 different purposes.
Electronic equipment is characterized by a high degree of integration and automation of many functions, allowing the aircraft to conduct combat operations in all weather conditions, day and night.
The main armament 27-mm aircraft gun Mauser BK27 with a rate of up to 1100 1700 rounds per minute with a margin 120 cartridges (not included in the model double JAS 39B). JAS-39 8 has suspension points, and can carry a total weight of combat load 4200 kg. The export version of the JAS-39NG has 10 suspension points. Capacity in this version increased to 5200 kg. In the class of rockets "air-air" is able to carry up to 6 missiles AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles or up to 4 AIM-120 AMRAAM. In the class "air-surface", the aircraft is capable of carrying up to 4 missiles AGM-65 Maverick or to far-range missiles 2 TAURUS KEPD 350 / 150, designed to destroy hardened targets. Also JAS-39 capable of carrying two anti-ship missiles RBS-15, developed by the Swedish company SAAB Bofors Dynamics.
Bombings armament includes up to 4 guided bombs, laser-guided GBU-12 PAVEWAY II or up to 8 laser-guided bombs without Mark 82. It is also capable of carrying and cluster bombs.
Grippen is in service with the following countries: Sweden, Hungary to 2006 years old, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Thailand, South Africa to 2007 years
