Yakovlev-26

And-26 is a single-seat fighter, which was designed by designers of OKB-115 under the guidance of A. Yakovlev. This prototype fighter after successful state tests was transferred to series production under the designation Yak-1.

Brief History And-26

In 1939, the task of creating a new fighter was set to Yakovlev, who must comply with the state order, and not to yield to foreign analogues. Study of apparatus were started with 9 May 39 115 year-ohm factory. In June of the same year the Soviet Air Force leadership has developed its own requirements for a new fighter. On this basis, the Council of Ministers approved the qualities that should have a new fighter. When mounted on the engine and M-26-106 aircraft must meet the following criteria:

  • maximum flight speed - 620 km / h at an altitude of 6 kilometers;

  • speed landing - 120 km / h;

  • Range should make 1 thousand kilometers when reloading flight;

  • maximum flight ceiling - 12 kilometers;

  • to a height of 10 kilometers aircraft must climb over 10 minutes;

  • the aircraft must be equipped with two machine guns and one type ShKAS 12,7-mm machine gun BS.

Subsequently, the engine M-106 was added turbocharger through which engine reaches high rates of climb and speed.

In the autumn of 39, TsAGI finished the blowdown of the design model, and then proceeded to the full-scale production of the first I-26 aircraft. The work was greatly boosted, due to what the first device was ready in a month. The designers did further fine-tuning of the fighter's units, after which the first flight, which occurred 13 January 40, became possible. The car showed itself from the best side when flying. The disadvantage was the increase in the temperature of the oil, because of what was forced landing. During the tests, there were many problems and imperfections that were corrected in parallel with the tests.

Yakovlev-26

During the state tests, I-26 was able to accelerate to the speed of 592 km / h, these figures were obtained at an altitude of 5 kilometers. Instability of the apparatus during longitudinal flight was observed. Disadvantages in the design can be called imperfection of the oil system and the chassis system, in addition, the cockpit did not have ventilation. As a result of all tests and tests, the state commission decided that the I-26 does not meet the requirements that were brought against it. Despite this verdict, the car was taken for serial production. As a result, Yakovlev promised to correct the shortcomings and provide a more advanced device, which was ready only for 46 year.

Design Features and-26

Fighter-26 made by a mixed scheme. Farm machine is made of steel pipes, which have internal braces. This design, together with the engine mount is an integral whole. Sheathing cab plywood was produced in the same manner as the wings and other parts of the body. The wings have only one pylon, which is on the outside covered with a cloth. Of duralumin they were manufactured rudders, cowlings, ailerons, radiator flaps and manhole covers.

The power plant and in-26 was represented by engine type M-105, which drives the wooden propeller of constant pitch. The engine gave this power fighter in 1100 horsepower.

And-26 has an excellent aerodynamic qualities mainly due to the management center of gravity and the shape of the hull. Location cockpit in the central part of the device allowed for a great overview of the run-off or aircraft.

Further development of this project is the Yak-1. On the basis of the plane-26 and created a number of versions with different power plants and weapons. Total 8670 different versions were created full-scale production of this unit. During World War II-26 and proved itself as a reliable fighting machine.
