The development of the aircraft, contrary to the expectations of specialists, was carried out without any base, which took quite a long time, and in turn led to a certain rise in the cost of the project, but in fact, the model is very similar to the previous versions, developed by the American designer Tom Hamilton, of aircraft.

His first flight of the aircraft took place in Glasair GlaStar 1994, after which it was almost immediately put into production, where there were about 11 years. The plane is made with the use of composite materials, which is why it was possible not only to greatly reduce the weight of the aircraft, but in fact, strengthen the structure of the body, thereby increasing the safety of air travel.

Due to the compact size of the Glasair GlaStar cockpit, only two people can be accommodated on board the aircraft, however, according to a number of wishes of future customers, there is a luggage compartment at the rear of the cabin, which allows the transportation of a certain amount of payload, which increased the demand for the aircraft in spite of Initial expectations. Due to the high maneuverability and the ability to accelerate to high speeds, the Glasair GlaStar aircraft can also be operated as a sports aircraft, although to a greater extent this aircraft has been proven in private use.

The Glasair GlaStar power plant is represented by one Lycoming O-320 piston air-cooled four-cylinder aircraft engine capable of developing a thrust of 160 hp, which in turn allows reaching a maximum flight speed of 274 km / h, with a maximum flight range of up to 2315 kilometers. Among other things, the Glasair GlaStar aircraft can also be equipped with a more powerful piston engine of the Lycoming O-360 model, the working cylinders of which are capable of developing a power of 180 hp, which in turn affects a number of the aircraft's flight performance.

Among other things, the American aircraft manufacturers on the basis of the basic version of the model was also created three versions later degenerated into separate models:

  • Symphony SA-160;
  • Glasair Sportsman 2 + 2 - the quadruple version of the aircraft;
  • Plane Driven PD-1.

Over the entire period of production, it was released about 415 aircraft model Glasair GlaStar.
