Dominie, a military modification of the lightweight Dragon Rapide airliner, was first produced to carry out the same mission of the Aviation Ministry (G.18 / 35) as the Anson aircraft of AVRo. As mentioned earlier, the monoplane was chosen for general reconnaissance, so De Havilland had to be content with selling a small number of DH 89M aircraft (the designation the military gave to the plane, Rapid) to the Spanish government for use in Morocco. Nevertheless, not everything was lost for the elegant Rapid airplane, because it was chosen by the Royal Air Force to perform the role of a liaison officer - several DH 89 aircraft were purchased in 1937-1938 years, until 1939 purchased 17 aircraft for training with Radio equipment.

At this time, the training modification, which differed in the loop antenna of the radio compass over the cabin, received the designation "Domini" Mk I, while the connected modification was christened "Domini" Mk II. This aircraft remained in production until July of the year 1946. For the Royal Air Force and the FAA (Fleet Air Arm), about 475 Dominie aircraft were built (plus a little for the US Army Air Force in the UK). In addition to the eight Dragon Rapid / Domini aircraft, which are now in the airworthiness of the UK, several other examples are also in the airworthiness state in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
