The most successful training aircraft in the United States during the First World War. The Curtis JN-4 Jenny was an improved version of the JN-3. The Jenny's success as a trainer is largely due to the incredibly reliable OX-5 engine. America's entry into World War I in April 1917 led to orders for the Jenny aircraft, with total production reaching 1918 by the time the war ended shortly after the end of the war in November 6000. Perhaps the greatest work of this type, however, took place after the war, when hundreds of surplus machines were sold cheaply to private buyers, helping to establish the US civil aviation.
