Aircraft Canadair North Star

Aircraft Canadair North Star is a revised and improved version of the American multi-purpose aircraft Douglas DC-4, at the same time, experts note that outdated piston aircraft engines used on this model earlier, were replaced, which in turn became the main factor of why the flight performance of the aircraft greatly improved.

In contrast to the model, the design of which was created by the plane, model Canadair North Star is not operated as a military aircraft, and its main purpose was to provide Canadian air carriers operating in the country, although later, these aircraft were also sold and a number of other Countries operators.

Depending on the cabin configuration, the Canadair North Star aircraft can accommodate up to 62 passengers in the economy class layout, 52 passengers in the 1st class layout, or an equivalent amount of cargo weighing about 11500 kg. Due to the maximum flight range of 6121 kilometers (maximum flight distance), the aircraft was a very effective means for the entire civil aviation of Canada, and, despite the fact that in 1975 it was decided to abandon the operation of this aircraft, at the moment the aircraft of the model Canadair North Star continues to be used, in particular, two aircraft are in Mexico (as of 2013).

Four Rolls-Royce Merlin 622 turboprop aircraft engines are used as a power plant on the Canadair North Star aircraft, each of which is capable of developing a power of 1760 hp, which in turn provides a flight speed of about 568 km / h. (the maximum flight speed of the aircraft). In addition, thanks to powerful turboprop aircraft engines, the aircraft is able to freely cover distances of over 6 thousand kilometers, however, there is a small nuance in this, which consists in a large amount of consumed fuel, which was one of the reasons for the withdrawal of this model from service.

Over the entire production cycle, Canadian aircraft manufacturers have built 71 aircraft of this model, most of which are currently decommissioned, some are in museums, and only a few one or two aircraft are in operation.
