The company "Taylorcraft" (Taylorcraft) was created in the US in 1936 year with the aim of producing light aircraft for private use. With its aircraft models B, C and D, the company achieved such success that in 1938 in the UK, a subsidiary company was established to build these aircraft under license. The Taylorcraft titanic high-ridge with the in-line arrangement of crew members by September 1939 was built in the UK only in 32 copies. Twenty of them (modifications of Plus C and D, which were model C-model aircraft built in the UK) were requisitioned by the Royal Air Force after the outbreak of war for intelligence and communications.

The plane was so successful that more 100 machines were ordered. When they entered service in August 1942, they were given the designation Auster I. Aircraft for the Royal Air Force were slightly modified in comparison with civil aircraft. To improve the takeoff and landing characteristics, especially when used on short runways, slotted flaps were installed. Until the end of the war, more than 1600 Auster aircraft, including the most successful modification of the MkV, were laid. Only this modification was built around 800 aircraft. At the apogee of their success, the "Oster" aircraft were equipped with 19 squadrons of the second tactical air force (2nd Tactical Air Force) and Desert Air Force (Desert Air Force).
