Failed as a result of the export success achieved by the basic training aircraft "Jet Provost," "Straykmaster» (Strikemaster - forward) to fulfill the role as a training aircraft and light attack aircraft due to accelerated engine "Viper", the increased number of under-wing suspension points (eight ), strengthened airframe and extensive communication and navigation equipment. Obtained from the manufacturer designation BAC 167 airplane "Strikemaster" also had catapulted seats of the company "Martin Baker", a redesigned fuel scheme and short landing gear, designed for easy operation from unprepared sites. Production of the Strikemaster aircraft of the Mk 80 series was started in 1968, and during the next decade the aircraft were sold to Ecuador (Mk 89 version), Kenya (Mk 87 version), Kuwait (Mk 83 modification), New Zealand (Mk 88 modification) , Oman (modification of Mk 82), Saudi Arabia (modification of Mk 80), Singapore (modification of Mk 84) and South Yemen (modification of Mk 81), which amounted to a serial batch over 115 aircraft.

The last newly built "Straykmaster" aircraft made at the end of the year 1984 Sudan (modification Mk 90). Aeroplanes operated in Oman, South Yemen and Ecuador participated in the fighting, but today very few "Straykmaster" aircraft fly in combat aircraft, if at all, they stayed there. In 1990-20 years of more planes appeared in the civil use. Aircraft "Straykmaster" from New Zealand, South Yemen, Singapore, Botswana (former Kuwaiti aircraft Mk 83) and Oman have received civil registration in the UK, Australia and the USA.
