BQM-34F Firebee II

BQM-34 FFirebeeII is a targetless drones developed by the US company Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical. Since 60-ies, the US Navy and the US Air Force have become interested in the new drone speeds to increase the training of their fighter pilots and air defense system gunners. Thus, the company TRA decided to take advantage of the experience in creating subsonic drones Firebee and to design its upgraded continuation with the engine Continental YJ69-406 (thrust 870 kgf), which would allow it to develop speed up to 1,5 Mach. The first 99 copies were created in 1974 year, and a few months later they were in the arsenal of the US Air Force. The launch of the UAV was carried out with the help of a rocket accelerator from a ground launch facility or dropped from a specially equipped DC-130 aircraft.

Deep modernization of installation allows you to transfer 4 unit UAV. Finding fulfilled its task BQM-34 FFirebeeII carried out with the help of MARS (Mid-Air Retrieval System), installed on the search helicopter from a height of up to 24 meters. If the drone fell into the water, he stayed on the surface for several hours. Electronic equipment allowed it to submit the different radar mark location.
