Boeing 717 is a monoplane with a low-lying, swept wing, a fuselage of circular cross-section and a "T" -shaped tail unit. For the basis of the wing of Boeing 717 was taken wing of the aircraft DC-9-34. The power plant of the aircraft consists of two BR715-A1-30 engines with an output of 83,2 kN or two BR715-C1-30 engines with an output of 93,4 kN. These turbojet engines manufactured by Rolls Royce are located in the tail section of the fuselage in the gondolas. The modern avionics EFIS is installed in the cockpit. To process flight and airplane data, the Honeywell VIA 2000 computer system is used. All information is displayed on six multifunction screens. In general, the cockpit is similar to the cockpit of the Douglas MD-90.

Airplanes Boeing 717 are two major modifications, is the basic version of the Boeing 717-200BGW with a flight range of 2600 kilometers version of Boeing 717-200HGW with increased up to 3800 kilometers flight range.

In May 2003 in Geneva it was presented to corporate 60-seater version of the aircraft Boeing 717 Business Express with a range of 5815 kilometers.
