The four-engine Boeing 707, together with the Soviet Tu-104, the French Sud Aviacion Caravelle and the British de Havilland DH.106 Comet, is one of the first jet airliners in the world produced for passenger air transportation. Also, starting with the Boeing 707, the foundations were laid for the dominance of the jet aircraft of the American company Boeing Commercial Airplanes in the passenger air transportation market. Depending on the modification, the range of the 707s can be from 4650 to 10550 kilometers. Various versions of the Boeing 707 can accommodate up to 189 passengers in their cabin.

According to Boeing 707 its concept, is a narrow-body, four-engine plane shaped monoplane low-wing arrow shaped, under which are located in nacelles turbojets.

The prototype for the whole family became 707-x plane Boeing 367-80, also known as the Dash-80. Construction Boeing 367-80, 1952 year began, and has already 14 May 1954 year's plane was. The length of the finished aircraft was 39,97 meters in span in 39,88 meters. To build Boeing 367-80 spent about 16 million. The flight of the prototype took place on July 15 1954 years.

Later the prototype name was changed to Model-707. Since the start of flight tests, Boeing, the US Air Force has received an order to develop a jet tanker aircraft. An extended version of the Model-707 aircraft was chosen as the basis for this project. The prototype of the tanker aircraft was designated Model-717. Serial aircraft will later receive the designation C-135 Stratolifter and KS-135 Stratotanker.

But as far as the passenger airliner is concerned, Boeing had a competitor in the form of the Douglas DC-8 jet aircraft, manufactured by the American company McDonnell Douglas. For this reason, Boeing had to modernize its project. The new aircraft was designated Boeing 707-120. On this aircraft, the section and length of the fuselage were increased. This made it possible to place three chairs in one row. Thanks to this, the passenger capacity has been increased. The length of the Boeing 707-120 was now 44,07 meters. The airliner was powered by Pratt & Whitney JT3D-6 engines with a thrust of 60,02 kN. Orders for the Boeing 707-120 began arriving in mid-1955. The first customer of the new airliner was Pan American. For the first time this plane took to the skies on December 20, 1957. Boeing 5000-707 began operating regular passenger flights on domestic American flights up to 120 kilometers long in August 1958.

Boeing 707 SalonIn December 1955, work began on the construction of an aircraft for intercontinental flights. The main customer of the new transatlantic aircraft was the same Pan American. The aircraft received the designation Boeing 707-320. This model has an enlarged fuselage, thanks to which the length of the Boeing 707-320 is 46,61 meters. The wingspan and the volume of the fuel tanks have also been increased. Initially, the aircraft was equipped with Pratt & Whitney JT4A-3 engines with a capacity of 71,5 kN. The first flight of the Boeing 707-320 was made on January 11, 1959. After certification in August 1959, the aircraft began to enter the airlines. In early 1962, the Boeing 707-320 made its maiden flight with Pratt & Whitne JT3D-3 engines. Later, the aircraft was powered by Pratt & Whitney JT3D-7 engines with a capacity of 84,4 kN.

The Boeing 707-320 version became the most popular aircraft of the entire 707 family. This airliner is in economy class and can accommodate up to 189 passengers. With a two-class layout, 147 passenger seats can be accommodated in its cabin. Its flight range is more than nine thousand kilometers.

In addition, various modifications were manufactured passenger aircraft designed to transport, freight and military purposes.

Manufacture of aircraft Boeing 707 was finally discontinued in 1978 year. Over the entire period of production units issued 1010 aircraft Boeing 707.
