Chronology of events:

The Thessaloniki-Kiev flight was performed by Aerosvit Airlines on Boeing-737 aircraft. During the interim boarding in Odessa, abnormalities were found on board, which precluded the continuation of the flight on this aircraft. Aviation company: AeroSvit, without replacing the faulty aircraft with its aircraft, has signed an agreement with Air Lviv to lease a Yak-42 aircraft for the flight to Thessaloniki. The crew overtook the plane from Lviv and landed in Odessa in 15: 23. On Thessaloniki the flight was continued in 17: 23. After entering the control zone of Thessaloniki, the crew was given permission to approach and descend to the 16 band according to ILS and VOR / DME. The weather conditions were less than the minimum of the airport, but the clouds and the dark time of the day did not give the opportunity to survey the land. The crew dodged significantly from the approach scheme and at too high a height approached the airport and passed over it. In accordance with the records of the voice cabin recorder due to loss of orientation, the crew did not understand even this, only after learning from the dispatcher about the flight of the airport. The crew was instructed to go right turn up the climb to 1800 m on the airport radio beacon. The crew confirmed the instruction. In the cockpit at the same time, the confusion continued, which began even at the first approach to landing. As a result, the crew did not follow the established scheme of the missed approach and the right turn did not comply. The crew did not report on the loss of spatial orientation. Due to the lack of radar, dispatchers could not verify the information from the crew about their whereabouts. Being at a height below the safe outside the approach scheme, the plane in 19: 13 collided at a height of 1 050 m with the hillside of Pente Pigadia at 69 km to the southwest from the airport. The crash site was revealed after 3 days. During the searches, which took place in conditions of very poor visibility, another plane C-130 military = air force of Greece crashed.
