The plane with a crew from the Russian airline Antey was leased to the Lancia airline SkyCabs. The crew on the day of the incident conducted take-off at Bandaranaike Airport (Colombo) at 01: 40 local time. The flight to Bangkok Don-Muang Airport and landing took place without deviations. The parking time in Bangkok was 4 hours 20 minutes. To 8300 kg of fuel, which remained on board refueled another 6681kg. Therefore, on board before the start of the engines was 14981 kg of fuel. clothing and cargo weight was 18 tons. The return flight to Colombo carried the same crew. They got the weather forecast at the destination airport, which did not contain information on dangerous weather phenomena. Estimated flight time was 5 20 hours minutes.

The crew in 16: 16 switched to the Colombo ATC connection and received information about the actual weather at the Colombo airport. Dispatcher in 16: 40 reported a storm warning, valid up to 14: 15 in the Colombo ATC area. It provided for thunderstorms. He instructed him to contact the dispatcher of the approach, which the crew requested removal and allowed the reduction and approach to the 04 lane. With a sharp deterioration in weather conditions (rainfall, thunderstorms, great turbulence), coupled with the fact that the crew was tired, two approaches to the landing on the course system on the 04 were unsuccessful. The crew began to produce the third approach for landing, this time by the reverse course (to the strip 22). During this approach, in difficult weather conditions, at the point of the fourth turn, a spontaneous stop of all engines and the fading of propellers occurred. The plane in 18: 04 began in a gentle decline to touch the tops of coconut palms, then collided with land in 2,2 km to the north-north-west of the airport in the populated area and collapsed completely. During the investigation, the Commission found:

- Arbitrary shutdown of all four engines in flight took place due to running out of fuel. The number of filled fuel made it impossible in which case leave the planned alternate airport;

- Having regard to flight documentation, much of the flight crew that made with the remnants of fuel, which did not provide care to the alternate aerodrome, as the refueling and loading aircraft preference was loaded at the expense of fuel filling, does not correspond to the requirements of systematic RLE;

- Coating of the crew a month before the crash was 146 hours, almost 2 times more sanitary standards (76 hours).
